Damn THAT Store!

Musings of A Beautiful Mess
*picture found on walmart.com*

I caved. I wasn't going to return it. I was just going to either sew the corner *laughs* or make the bed so that corner doesn't show. But after thinking about it for a few days, I felt I deserved a new one. So, I went to return my bed in a bag set today and they wouldn't take it back*BASTARDS*! I went to wal-mart aka the store where you can wear your DIRTY pajamas to, apparently. I told the gal at the customer service desk that I didn't have my receipt and I'd be more then happy with store credit. I specifically told her that I would prefer store credit. They called the department supervisor over and she couldn't allow a return because it was torn. So the gal called the store manager. The gals turned away from me to talk to the store manager and when she turned back around she told me that she couldn't return it because it was ripped. Yes, I'm aware it is ripped, that is why I'm returning it dumbass. I bit my tongue and didn't say that. I was very polite and asked if there was something I can do. "Should I call the company that makes it? Should I call corporate office and talk to them?" I wasn't trying to scam anyone, all I wanted was something that wasn't ruined to put on my bed. The answer I got was "well it is material, so if it gets tugged, it will rip." Oh so you're telling me that a comforter that is machine washable and goes on a bed is so fragile that if it gets "tugged" it will tear? So I walk away, still being polite vowing that I will WIN this, don't think I won't. I came home and sent an email to wal-mart's head office. Lets see who wins now, bitch!

I don't think I'm out of line. I don't think I asked for anything out of the ordinary. I didn't even ask for cash back! Just store credit or an exchange. But I got neither. I can't wait to see how this all ends. I DAMN well get a gift card in the mail for $48.96. I'll accept more, of course, but no less!

Oh honey, you should have brought me to the store with you. :-) We both would have received new bed linens courtesy of Evilmart. LOL I'm such a bitch when I do returns if they try to get in my way.

Oh, I would most defiantly send an email or letter to the company. You might be surprised what you get back.

Yes you should speak to In Due Time....She writes stupendous letters to companies that have creaky after-sales!

Boo Hoo to them...Just let them know that if it is material it can be tugged, then if I have a wallet, it may never be opened again for them...

I would consider contacting one of those reporters at a TV station who helps resolve these disputes.

glad you didn't give up. I suggest you try again at a different wal-mart. I once went through 4 before I found one that would do the return.

That sucks donkey balls!!!

I used to work for a large retailer with a name that rhymes with BARGET...and I was the Guest Service Team Leader (fancy term for customer service manager bitch)

I would have SOOOOO given you a store credit. My rule was if the person trying to do the return was reasonable and polite...I would do everything I could for them.
If they were buttheads however then - good luck!

Keep at em' hon...you will win this battle!!!

That is total BULLSHIT. You should have gotten your money back on the spot. Um. It's DAMAGED? WTF.

You must win this battle.

A letter to corporate usually works well in favour of the consumer especially when you tell them how disappointed you would be if you had to STOP SHOPPING there so much. I agree that being polite and reasonable usually gets the customer service person on your side and if that doesn't work, you speak to the manager DIRECTLY. The reason your comforter ripped was because it was poorly made. I bought a whole bed set at Linens N Things cause it looked so pretty and it was affordable and when I tugged at the bedskirt to straighten it, it ripped. When I looked closely at it, it was only single stitched and the material looked nice but it was so flimsy. It's still sitting in the pile of things to sew.

Never underestimate the power of a well written letter (or email). I'm surprised you kept so calm. Hopefully they'll refund you.

That sucks! Hope you hear back from the email you sent, and that you get refund $$.

Don't give up, do it for all of us that just let them get away with it because it's not worth our time.

PS: I boycotted Wal-Mart for three years due to bad customer service, I will be happy to re-boycott if you don't get what you are rightly due.

Oh I have some Wal-mart stories. You should call and email and anything else you can do.

Wal-mart makes me twitch.

Are you kidding me?!?! They're Wal=Mart, they'll take anything back!!!!

You know what I would do? I would go to a different Wal-Mart and try again.

What idiots.

I am so going on a Campaign of Retail Terror for you. I *adore* dealing with people who won't give me what I want.

Let's just put it this way: if Dave is with me, he'll walk away once it's clear that whatever I want won't be easy to get. And it's never THAT big a deal.

Stacie on April 20, 2009 at 10:36 PM said...

Oooh, that would have burned me up, too. I am not sure I'd have been as nice as you were, though. I've lost my ability to do the nice thing to people who act in an unacceptable way! Hope you stick it to them!
